Sealents

There are small grooves and pits on the biting surface of teeth. These tiny valleys can be difficult to clean even with the most careful brushing. If not cleaned properly they can harbor bacteria which breaks down tooth structure and causes cavities or carries. A dental professional can clean these tough to access areas and then apply a tooth colored material. The material flows into the pits and grooves sealing them from bacteria access. Sealants can extend the life of a tooth dramatically and prevent decay. Typically sealants are done when the patient is young but has their permanent molars. This is a low cost pain free procedure.
Lasers can are used for cosmetic procedures such as removing or reshaping gum tissue around teeth. There are still times when laser cannot be used. Examples of this are when an area already has a filling, when a filling is needed in between teeth or when preparing a tooth for a crown.
